Amazon Replacement Orders: How to Avoid Losing Money When the Original Is Not Returned

A replacement ships a second unit at ₹0. If the original never comes back, you have lost a full product. Here is how to track replacement pairs.

When a customer asks for a replacement, Amazon creates a new order with a sale price of ₹0 and you ship a second unit. The original is supposed to come back to you. If it does, you lose only shipping. If it does not, you have given away a full product.

Why replacements are easy to miss

There is no refund line in the payment report for a replacement, so a refund-based check never finds it. The ₹0 replacement order also looks odd on its own: a shipped order with no income.

Judge the pair, not the single order

The right way to see a replacement is as a pair: the original order and its replacement together.

Original returnedOriginal not returned

Units kept by customer12
Payout1 order1 order
ResultNormal sale minus extra shippingLoss of one full product

Pair profit = both payouts − cost of the units the customer kept.

What to check

  1. Download the Replacements report from Seller Central — it links each replacement to its original order ID.
  2. For each pair, check whether the original reached your warehouse.
  3. If it did not, and the claim window is open, file a claim on the original order.

Doing it automatically

Our Amazon reconciliation tool reads the Replacements report, links every pair, counts the profit once on the original order and marks the replacement row "in pair". If the original or the replacement is missing, the pair appears in the claims list with its window dates.
