Amazon SAFE-T Claim Rejected? Common Reasons and How to Fix Them
Most SAFE-T rejections are avoidable. Here are the reasons Amazon gives most often and what to change before you file again.
A rejected SAFE-T claim usually means the claim was filed at the wrong time, for the wrong order ID, or without the proof Amazon expects. The good news: almost every reason can be fixed before you file.
1. Filed before the eligible period
The most common rejection. Amazon gives a return time to reach you before it accepts a "return not received" claim — roughly 50 days after the refund for a normal order. If you file on day 30, the claim is rejected and you have to wait and file again.
Fix: file only when the claim window is open. Track the open and close date for every order — the Amazon return reconciliation tool shows both dates for each claim.
2. Wrong base date for a replacement order
For a replacement pair Amazon counts from the latest of the original refund date, the replacement refund date and the replacement ship date. Counting from the original order date opens your window weeks too early. Read more on replacement order claims.
3. Amazon shows the return as delivered
If the Returns Reconciliation report says Returned to Seller or Returned to Seller (POD Completed), Amazon treats the product as delivered back to you, and a "not received" claim is rejected. If you really did not receive it, dispute the return status quickly with your warehouse receiving records instead of filing a normal claim.
4. Already reimbursed
Amazon may already have paid the order — a SAFE-T credit, a "lost or damaged" reimbursement or an FBA customer-return reimbursement in your payment report. A second claim is rejected as a duplicate. Check the payment report before you file.
5. Claim filed after the window closed
Each claim window also closes. Orders older than the window are lost money — the only fix is to reconcile every week so nothing gets that old.
6. Missing or weak evidence
Attach what Amazon asks for: the order ID, refund date, return tracking, and — for damaged or wrong-item returns — clear photos of the product, the packaging and the label, taken when the parcel is opened.
7. FBA order claimed as a self-ship return
Orders shipped from an Amazon fulfilment centre go back to the FC. They are handled through FBA reimbursements, not SAFE-T "return not received" claims.
8. Order ID typed wrongly
A claim filed against the replacement instead of the original (or the other way round) is rejected. Always claim the order ID that is actually missing.
A simple routine that avoids rejections
- Upload your reports every week.
- File only claims whose window is open now.
- Paste the SAFE-T ID back into your tracker so you can see which claims are paid.
- Re-file rejected-too-early claims when the window opens.
